You're probably thinking "Wow, no new news since April; must not be anything happening
at POV Winery." Not so. In fact, we've been busy enough that I've actually managed to sort of neglect
the news page. Early this year we went to Bismarck to fight for the right to ship wine. ND then
became a reciprocal state, making it possible for us to ship to several other states.(Thanks, Dan)
We also started a couple new wines early this year. The Black Currant Cassis, which was a huge hit at the
Pride of Dakota Holiday Showcases, and the Wild Plum wine, which is now nearly gone.(Hope to do that one, again!)
We bottled nearly every Saturday this Summer and were able to extend our tasting room hours to 7 days a week
thanks to my lovely wife Cindy, who became a full-time "wine-lady" this year. We went to 3 Pride of Dakota
Holiday Showcases this fall and participated in Minot's first annual Food and Wine Festival. There was food,
fun, wine, live music, and even a grape stomp competition. Lately, alot of people have been choosing wine as
the perfect Christmas gift. After all, even for the most difficult-to-shop-for person, how can you go wrong
with wine? What better way to say "Baby, you're the greatest!". Have a fantastic Christmas, everybody, and
a wonderful New Year.

Recently, the wine shipment bill was passed by a large margin in both houses
of the North Dakota Legislature. Even more recently it was signed by Governor Hoeven.
This makes ND a reciprocal state and makes it possible for us to ship wine to other states
with reciprocity shipping laws. (13 other such states) Many thanks to Representative Ruby and to
Representatives Kasper and Meier and Senators O'Connell and Tollefson for sponsoring our bill.
Thanks also to the many supporters of the bill, who, with their support,
are helping us to build an industry in North Dakota. We've been getting the winery ready for our new
extended summer hours (May - Dec. Mon-Sat 11-6, Sun 12-5) and we'll soon be releasing a couple
new wines, including Dry Apple Wine and Cassis, a Black Currant dessert wine.
January 16, 2005
North Dakota's 59th legislative assembly
will soon be considering
HB 1325
which would make it possible for ND wineries to direct ship to customers in other states,
while those states would be able to direct ship to ND customers.
So far, there are 13 other such reciprocal states.
Also, ND wineries have proposed changes to the existing wine law,
which would lift some restrictions. For details, see
SB 2179.
If these issues are of interest to you, please contact your ND
Senate
or House
representative.

We seem to be busier than usual this holiday season.
We enjoyed the visits of many "Santas" recently, who wanted to reward those who had been good last
year with the gift of wine. (Good call) We are also working on batches of Chokecherry wine, Juneberry wine, and
a new one for us, Black Currant wine (yum), all of which will be available in the spring. Also available
in 2005, will be a dry Apple wine and Plum wine.

We've been keeping real busy lately gearing up for two weekends at the
Pride of Dakota Holiday Showcase in Minot (Nov 13-14) and Bismarck (Dec 4-5).
We will also have a new wine, Viking Mead, at the Showcase and two more new ones by the end of the year.
A crisp, dry rhubarb wine, and Frontenac 2003, a red varietal which has been waiting patiently in
oak barrels for 12 months.
June 21, 2004
We just completed our first Rhubarb squeeze of the season.
We finally got a chance to put Shrek (our new press) to the test. He passed...big time.
Thanks much to our many growers who helped make this possible. If you wish to supply
rhubarb or any other fruits for us, please see our
fruit prices page.
Now the juice quietly awaits it's fermentation into a beautiful thing. Oh...yeah.
May 1, 2004
Today is opening day!... No. Not baseball season. The start of our
winery season. We are now open Friday and Saturday 11:00 to 6:00 and Sunday 12:00 to 5:00,
through the end of October.
March 30, 2004
Well, spring is finally here and our barrel-aged dry Chokecherry wine is
finally ready! (My personal favorite) It's fruity and bold and has a brilliant red color.
December 30, 2003
Holiday hours kept us real busy and we enjoyed visiting with lots
of fun people who knew what their friends really wanted for Christmas - Wine!
Have a Happy and Prosperous New Year, everybody!
October 6, 2003
What a busy late summer and fall season we're having!
We've started a Cherry wine, 2 styles of Chokecherry (dry and dessert), a Frontenac grape and an Apple wine as
well as 2 types of Oak-Barrel-aged Honey wines. We're also preparing for the Norsk Hostfest, where we'll have
a booth featuring our Honey wines.
(Whew! I need a nap.)

Many "Thanks" to the Women's Symphony League for inviting us
to be a part of the Summer Garden Tour. We met many nice people and gave many
tours of the winery. A good time was had by all.
Traffic is increasing as summer rolls on and we've had opportunities to talk to
many interesting people from all over.
April 18, 2003
Governor Hoeven has signed HB1298.
Many "Thanks" to all those in the ND legislature who supported this bill.
And a special "Thanks" to Senators Lyson and Fischer and Representatives Keiser and Ruby.
Well, summer's on it's way and it looks like it's gonna be a busy one.
We plan to make some new wine varieties as well as the popular ones from last year.
We'll have regular hours from May to October,
and we look forward to entertaining many visitors.
April 2, 2003
The ND Senate has passed HB1298 by a 29-18 margin.
February 4, 2003
The ND House of representatives has passed HB1298 by a 72-22 margin.
January 21, 2003
The ND legislature will soon be hearing HB 1298.
This amendment would promote agriculture and economic development by making it possible
for wineries to start and by giving growers a crop alternative.
November 27, 2002
After weeks of bottling (with much appreciated help from friends) and labeling, the
wine is now available in limited quantities in North Dakota off-sale stores.
Currently in the works are Rhubarb wine and a semi-sweet Honey wine.
November 15, 2002
Finally, we have label approval.
Won't be long, now!
September 17, 2002
After spending the Spring and early Summer preparing the building for
production, aquiring equipment and doing our homework, production has finally begun.
Our first batch, Juneberry, is complete and is waiting patiently for bottling time.
Our Dry Honey wine (similar in flavor to Reisling) is also ready for bottling.
Currently in the works are Elderflower Honey wine and Chokecherry wine (lovely aroma).
Coming soon will be a Nouveau style Frontenac (Minnesota variety), and Rhubarb wine.

Pointe of View, North Dakota's first Winery.
